Frequently Asked Questions

Who can attend Camp Hickory Hill programs?

Rules for acceptance in any program are the same for everyone, without regard to race, color, national origin or religious beliefs. Campers do not have to be a part of CSB Ministry programs during the year to participate in our summer program.

How can I check your health/safety record?

Camp Hickory Hill is licensed by the NYS Board of Health. Inspection reports are filed at the Wyoming County Health Dept., 338 N. Main St., Warsaw, NY 14569

What is your camper to counselor ratio?

Our target is to have eight campers living with two counselors each week. There will always be at least two counselors per cabin. One of the counselors will be in college or older, while the other may be a high school junior leader. Occasionally a cabin group may have nine boys in it.

How do you screen your counselors (background checks, etc.)?

All new staff applicants must be interviewed and provide three references (at least one from their church and at least one from their work/school). Anyone 18 or over will be screened through a criminal and sexual offender search. About 90% of our staff has either grown up at Camp Hickory Hill or is connected with our parent ministry, CSB Ministries. This makes interviews and reference checks much easier.

What is your policy regarding phone calls home for campers?

As a general rule, campers do not have access to a phone while at camp. We find that in many cases, even if a child is having a wonderful time, a phone call home can cause or increase homesickness. (Occasional exceptions must go through the Summer Camp Director.)

How do you handle medical problems?

Many staff members will have American Red Cross First Aid training, two will have ARC Responding to Emergencies Certification and a Nurse is on hand 24-hours a day. If anything more than a cut, a scrape, a bruise or an upset stomach occurs, we will contact the camper’s parents. Wyoming County Hospital is just fifteen minutes away if needed.

How are campers handled that do not share Camp Hickory Hill’s statement of faith precisely?

Our goal at Camp Hickory Hill is to provide a fun and safe environment where God’s Word and Christ’s love is shared to all campers. Each camper will participate in Praise and Worship, Bible Exploration and Campfires but will be accepted and loved regardless of their spiritual beliefs.
